Biomedical Interventions
The treatment modalities implemented
by the Avon Therapeutic Center for
Children follows the DAN!
(Defeat Autism Now) approach. It is
a comprehensive rational and step-
wise approach to treatment. It starts
with improving the diet (high protein,
low carbohydrate), removal of offending agents (dietary elimination of wheat,
gluten, casein, yeast, additives, chemicals); use of anti-fungals; restoration of
the normal gut flora with acidophilus and multidophilus; normalization of gut
function including digestive enzymes; removal of toxic metals through
chelation; vaccine precaution; anti-virals (including vitamin A, immunotherapy);
Secretin; detoxification; and correction of nutrient and vitamin deficiencies.
Auditory Integration Training
The Berard method of AIT is one of the most effective interventions now
available for the enhancement of sensory integration, listening skills,
receptive and expressive language, learning, socialization, and reduction
of sound sensitivity. When individuals experience difficulty with sensory
integration, and auditory perceptual and processing skills, it interferes with
the ability to interpret daily experiences accurately and efficiently. The
ability to understand what is heard and effectively communicate ideas
and needs is compromised. As a result, behavioral issues often arise
and socials skills may be affected; development may be hindered and
the individuals may not be able to reach their full potential.
Energy Healing
Energy healing sessions are provided
at the Center. Specialty techniques
include Tong Ren Healing System,
Tui Na, Reiki, and Bio-Resonance
therapies.
Special Education Tutorial Services
Tutorial services are provided using
Applied Behavioral Analysis (Discrete
Trial or Lovaas technique; Precision
Teaching or Fluency), PECS, Verbal
Behavior, and Social Skills Instruction.
Dietary and Nutritional Consultation Services
Optimal nutritional status is essential for special needs adults and children.
