Eileen C. Comia, M.D. Medical Director
A DAN! (Defeat Autism Now) Practitioner and a board-certified Internal Medicine specialist, Dr. Eileen Comia is a strong advocate of biomedical interventions in the treatment of autism and autism-related disorders. She obtained her training from Dr. Sidney Baker, co-founder of the DAN! movement, an organization of physicians and scientists searching for causes and treat- ment modalities for autism.
Dr. Comia obtained her Medical Degree from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Philippines. She did her postgraduate residency training in Internal Medicine at Overlook Hospital, a major affiliate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She went into private practice for seven years before pursuing the "fight against autism".
Being the parent of an autistic child, Dr. Comia felt the frustration and desperation that comes with rearing a child afflicted with this disorder. Thus, she established the Avon Therapeutic Center for Children, LLC with the goal of not necessarily finding a cure for autism but treating the underlying functional and biochemical abnormalities found commonly in children with the autism spectrum.
Dr. Comia is affiliated with the Connecticut State Medical Society, American Medical Association, and the American College of Physicians. She is a frequent presenter at state conferences, and for local chapters and parent support groups in the field of autism. The biomedical interventions she employs in the treatment of autism aid in enhancing behavioral and adjunctive therapy.
